HAMBURG Dresser

HAMBURG Dresser
Unique piece, Compagnons de Vie collection (2018)

Horse-foot shaped sea biscuits were the specialty of the Hanseatic family of ship’s bread and cookie bakers. For four generations their little factory supplied seagoing vessels on transatlantic routes from Hamburg to Greenland to New York. Their hard bread tasted so good that is was packaged in cans and delivered to stately homes in Berlin, Vienna, Constantinople, and St. Petersburg. Eight of these bygone biscuit trays now encase HAMBURG.

HAMBURG is an exceptionally crafted artwork of singular value. The mysteriously glimmering beauty of the body, completely encased in age-old baking trays, fired a thousand times. Cleaned, deburred and varnished, the stunning patina resembles the glistening coat of the most magnificent thoroughbred horse. Three virtually invisible drawers open the oak interior and close softly to the touch. A noble revolutionary, resting on a plinth of light, high-density industrial concrete.
